A 2022 study by the US Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) identified about 96 million people who observed, fed, or photographed birds; visited public parks to view birds, or maintained plantings and natural areas around their homes for the benefit of birds.

鸟类使用的所有栖息地对其生存都有影响，其中任何一个栖息地的丧失或退化都可能对整个种群产生影响。因此，栖息地的丧失是鸟类面临的最大威胁也就不足为奇了。All of the habitats used by a bird play a role in its survival, and the loss or degradation of any one of them can potentially have a population-level impact. It is little surprise, then, that habitat loss is the greatest threat to birds.
